Norah thrives with Kinship care

This story is about how Norah thrives because she was reunited with her grandmother through kinship care provided through St. Kizito and donor support.

Norah arrives at St Kizito

Norah was born on March 9th, 1988, and, as a baby, came into the care at St. Kizito Babies Home. At only two months old, she was admitted into our care on May 15th, 1988, arriving from Budeda village (Busulan sub-county, Budadiri County, Sironko district, Bumuduku by clan).

Helping in crisis

Norah came to St. Kizito in a time of crisis. Norah’s mother, Nafuna Josephine, had died in a severe accident, and there was no immediate relative to take care of her. Norah’s grandmother was around at this time but could not immediately take care of her. Her father is still unknown, despite our social workers’ efforts to trace him.

Hope through family reunification and education

After being provided care, education, and protection in our Home for most of her childhood, Norah was resettled and went to live with her grandmother at 13.

By the time Norah was resettled in 2001, she had already finished her primary Education at Nkoma primary school; She then continued with secondary studies at the same school (Nkoma). Excitedly, Norah passed all her exams for her specialization in English Literature, which enabled her to get a sponsor through a St.Kizito Babies Home donor. Other contributors to her education were her grandmother and uncle.

The impact of family-based care

Norah is now in France working as an English Literature teacher. She has kept in touch with staff and plans to visit us and the home she grew up in, in the future. Norah also spoke with staff members about her other goal. Norah wishes someday to be able to support our work here at St. Kizito so that she can pass on the blessing she once received to another little girl or boy.

That is our mission at St. Kizito. By emphasizing kindship care and resettling, we hope to transform the direction of each child’s life through our door.
